i'm hosting thanksgiving this year. this includes mom, dad, grandmother, david & jana. i'm trying to get very organized before the crowd blows in (if you know a bethel, then you know what i mean by "blows in").
so i'm soliciting for all favorite thanksgiving dishes, please send my way (by way of your blog then posting the static link in my comments or email me or just put it in my comments). it could be a breakfast item, an item that can be frozen and heated up for lunch, a thanksgiving side dish, a dessert, an appetizer, a leftover idea....anything! i need help. and maybe you'll find an item for your thanksgiving feast!
here's my offering:
* wa's bread stuffing
1 egg
1 yellow onion chopped
1 cup celery chopped (about 3 stalks)
1.5t minced garlic
1 cup stuffing
7 slices one day old white bread crumbled
1 bag pepperidge farm stuffing (you might not use the whole bag. i like more stuffing than bread)
checken broth - whatever it takes to form the right consistency (more moist than dry)
A LOT of sage
salt
pepper
garlic salt
saute onion, celery in olive oil. add minced garlic, salt pepper.
in a bowl stir together stuffing, bread, sage, chicken broth, garlic salt to right consistency. add onion/celery mixture.
place in pyrex and bake at 350 for 45 minutes - uncovered.
* wa is my grandmother, and she is famous for this recipe. famous in my family at least. i kind of made up the serving sizes because she never measured anything. if you don't like cornbread stuffing, then this is a fabulous alternative. i prefer it over cornbread stuffing.

wa's stuffing is the stuffing i have made since i ate it with you 8 years ago in brighton. it's fabulous and my fave.
i will offer up an easy breakfast recipe that is one of my faves:
arizona eggs (aunt faye)
12 eggs
3 cans green chiles
1.5 lb shredded monterey jack
3/4 cup evaporated milk
1 tsp each salt & paprika
beat eggs, mix in all other ingredients. bake @ 350 for 30-45 minutes.
this is SO good with some fresh fruit, bacon and biscuits. it makes a very filling breakfast. yum.
I'm gettin' hungry! These both sound sooo good!
d - not specific to Thanksgiving, but my mother (or one of us) makes sure she does this for just about every gathering we have as a family: simply, a huge bowl of cut-up fresh fruit. Both adults AND kids polish it off. Obviously you'd know what you want to add, but typically nanny's bowl consists of: grapefruit, oranges, apples, blueberries, bananas, pineapple, melon, watermelon (optional - seasonal), kiwi and strawberries and anything else to cut up & throw in the mix! Takes some time to cut up but is always so good and a fave of all. Good luck and have fun!
PS canned fruit is thrown in there too...like peaches and the pineapples
Wow, this is a BIG deal! Good luck to you. I expect a full feature film detailing the family drama on Thanksgiving day. Been done to death? Darn. Thought I was on to something. Well, at least a great blog should follow.
I do not have a recipe to add, but I do have a tip. Assuming you have mashed potatoes as is custom in the NorthEast, pre-cut (chunks) and boil your potatoes a day ahead and store them in the fridge. That way you can just warm them in milk, butter and salt the next day and dont have to go through ALL the prep the day of. For that matter, ANYTHING you can figure to make or at least prep a day or two ahead will make it that much more enjoyable. Maybe that goes without saying, but that is a lesson hard learned for me.
This is great! Enjoy!
ps Drain potatoes after boiling and store in chunks. Mash on T-day.
