in the aftermath of ike, we provided shelter for 3 very important evacuees - dave, jana, and pity pat. they could only tolerate us for 2 nights, but we enjoyed every minute. jana received a manicure from salon sofia, we went for happy hour at trinity hall, and we cooked....but we didn't just cook anything....
their neighbor had just gotten back from an alaskan fishing trip. he told david to take all the fish because due to loss of power he was going to lose everything. so we had fresh alaskan halibut fillets that were out of this world. my freezer is stocked full of individually vacuum packed alaskan halibut and salmon fillets. i feel really really bad for their neighbor....like i need to write a thank you note, flowers, donation to the red cross....something! he can rest assure that his catch will be thoroughly enjoyed!
they left yesterday with 50 gallons of gas (because the wait is 2 hours for gas where they live) in the back of their car for their generator and an AC window unit. power should be back anywhere from 24 hours to 3.5 weeks. maybe we'll see them again next week....

can i come over?
first of all i am jealous as hell of the fish. the american industrial boat is headed out this weekend...if they catch big tuna maybe we can make a swap because tuna is not my #1 choice but those 2 fish are.
secondly, i wish like hell that i were david and jana...just this once. i do not want a hurricane to rip through my town or leave me without electricity for who knows how long but i would love to come stay with you indefinitely and drink a beer at trinity hall. obviously...i am missing you.
glad they came to you...it was obviously worth it!
if you get sick of the fish, you could always share with a friend who lives here in town...
Enjoy the fish...hey, what's on your menu? Fish?
glad your bro had you to turn to, i feel so badly for all of those people. especially the neighbor with the fish, but you got lucky enjoy that, i love fish and betsy if the ais boat catches some tuna you can pass some our way we love tuna or atleast i do.......
UPDATE...power and internet and phone and A/C as of this afternoon. I'm living like a total rock star now. On the other hand, I wish I had some of that fish left. Neighbor came through town and took most of it back with him. Poor us.
sweet j and db are lucky to have a great fam close by. glad you got a little time together.... i am sure miss pitty pants was super sweet to the kids :)))
