destination lamesa, tx

summer road trip series is officially on. this past weekend we travelled to lamesa to celebrate nanny's 90th birthday (more on that later!).

on the way to lamesa we took i-20. we only made one pit stop at a rest area just outside of abilene.
things you would never do on a road trip with your 1st child but would do with your 2nd child:
  • no diaper change for the entire road trip (so shameful!)
  • spoon feed some jar food while on the road
on our way back to dallas (without our kids!!!!) we took the back roads (highway 180) and made lots of stops:
  • the snyder wind project - so cool!
  • to die for cheeseburgers in albany, texas (to die for because it is on buttered texas toast!!) at the prairie star convenience store
  • bought vegetables for my garden (coming soon) at the weatherford farmers market
  • stopped at various places in the caprock to see cattle & windmills.

then, home sweet home....not without a glitch though! if you know gustavo, then you know that it is next to impossible to break into our home (with several bolts on every door, motion and alarm wired security, locks on all gates....the list goes on). we get home (in my mom's car because she kept our car for the kids), open the garage and don't have a key to get in the garage door (it's on my key chain in lamesa). gustavo is soooooooooooooooo mad, and i am strangely calm thinking this is a perfect time to plant all my vegetables i just bought. as i do that, gustavo is on the phone to the security company telling them we're about to break in and not to send out anyone. his first attempt was through the 2nd floor windows....unsuccessful. his second attempt was through the kitchen window where he just randomly tried to open it first. not only did it open with ease, it's not wired for security either. he crawled through the window and let me in without a problem. this is the ultimate of ironies!

I long for a road trip that is just Rob and I. After we get through the "this is why I've been mad at you" conversation, we always end up having a blast and reconnecting which is, as you know, much harder when you have kids.

Also, Rob too is a security nut and got locked out (left his keys inside) just this Sunday. He found one of our bedroom windows unlocked...a window I NEVER use. It may have been open the entire time we've lived here.
